Austin D. Worley, D.O.

Athletics have been part of Dr. Austin Worley’s life both personally and professionally. With a background in collegiate athletics, he developed an early interest in caring for athletes and began working with high school and collegiate sports programs throughout Alabama while attending the Alabama College of Osteopathic Medicine.

That commitment continued during his family medicine residency at Forrest General Family Medicine Residency Program in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. There, Dr. Worley helped develop the program’s musculoskeletal curriculum while serving athletes as team physician for Sumrall High School and Jones County Junior College.

He later completed a Primary Care Sports Medicine fellowship at the Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell in Long Island, New York. During his fellowship, Dr. Worley served as team physician for Rugby United New York, Long Island University, Hofstra University, Berkeley College, and local high school athletic programs.

Today, Dr. Worley is a fellowship-trained sports medicine physician specializing in non-operative orthopedic and sports medicine care. He treats patients of all ages and activity levels, from young athletes and competitive players to adults who simply want to stay active.

His areas of expertise include sports injury evaluation and treatment, concussion management, ultrasound-guided interventional procedures, and orthopedic biologics, including platelet-rich plasma (PRP).

Because his practice focuses on non-operative sports medicine, Dr. Worley can evaluate musculoskeletal injuries, determine an appropriate course of treatment, and help patients work toward a safe return to sports and activity without surgery when appropriate. If an injury requires surgical or other subspecialty orthopedic care, he has direct access to the specialists within Southern Orthopaedic Surgeons.

Dr. Worley’s connection to athletics extends well beyond the clinic. He serves as Head Team Physician for Alabama State University Athletics and Pike Road High School and Club Team Physician for the Montgomery Biscuits.

He also provides sideline coverage and sports medicine support for high school athletes throughout the River Region. Working alongside athletic trainers, coaches, and other members of the sports medicine team keeps Dr. Worley closely connected to the needs of athletes, from injury evaluation and treatment to recovery and return to play.

His commitment to sports medicine education has also included serving as Medical Director for Huntingdon College’s Master of Athletic Training program, where he has helped oversee the educational experience of graduate athletic training students, served as a clinical preceptor, provided guest lectures, and led casting labs.

Dr. Worley understands that sports injuries rarely happen on a convenient schedule. He welcomes walk-in patients, particularly athletes with new injuries who need timely evaluation, and he also sees patients at Urgent Ortho by Southern Orthopaedic Surgeons in Montgomery.

This accessibility is an important part of Dr. Worley’s approach to sports medicine. Whether an injury happens during a game, at practice, while exercising, or during everyday activity, patients can have the injury evaluated and begin an appropriate treatment plan without automatically turning to the emergency room.

Dr. Worley is board-certified by the American Board of Family Medicine and is a member of the American College of Sports Medicine, American Medical Society for Sports Medicine, and American Academy of Family Physicians. He has also published case reports and research abstracts through the American Medical Society for Sports Medicine.

Outside of medicine, Dr. Worley enjoys hunting, fishing, spending time outdoors, and time with his family. He and his wife are the proud parents of a son and are happy to call the Montgomery area home.
