Dr. Brock Howell had the honor of serving the people of Guatemala at the Obras Sociales del Hermano Pedro Hospital in Antigua with the organization Faith in Practice this past February. This great organization has been working alongside the hospital’s dedicated staff for more than 25 years. Faith in Practice is committed to this partnership by investing in innovative infrastructure to ensure a safe environment for all volunteers, patients, and Obras personnel.
At the Obras Sociales del Hermano Pedro Hospital, the volunteer surgical teams treat patients referred by the volunteer medical teams. While in Guatemala, Dr. Howell’s team performed total hip and knee replacements, trauma surgeries, congenital defect repairs, and hand specialties with a total of 5 state-of-the-art operating rooms. They assessed over seventy patients and performed many life altering surgeries for the people of Guatemala. Patients traveled as far as 24 hours to receive treatment from the Las Obras Sociales del Santo Hermano Pedro Hospital and the Faith in Practice team. This was Dr. Howell’s second consecutive year serving with this organization.
