Back Pain Treatment in Central Alabama
Back pain can affect people of all ages and activity levels and may make everyday activities such as bending, lifting, sitting, or standing uncomfortable. At Southern Orthopaedic Surgeons, we evaluate the underlying cause of back pain and develop an individualized treatment plan to help relieve symptoms and restore mobility.
Back Pain
Back pain is one of the most common reasons patients seek medical care, affecting people of all ages and activity levels. It can result from a variety of causes, including muscle strain, herniated discs, spinal stenosis, or degenerative disc disease.
For many patients, everyday tasks like bending, lifting, sitting, or even standing for extended periods can become painful due to nerve irritation or compression in the spine. Due to the sensitive nature of the spine, conservative treatments such as physical therapy, medication, and posture correction are usually recommended first. If these treatments don’t provide relief, more advanced options, including surgery, will then be considered.
The goal of this type of treatment is to relieve the patient’s pain symptoms and restore their mobility.
Mid Back Pain
Mid back pain, also known as thoracic back pain, affects the area of the spine between the neck and the lower back. It can develop from muscle strain, poor posture, repetitive movements, injuries, or changes affecting the spinal discs and joints. Patients may experience aching, stiffness, tenderness, or discomfort that becomes more noticeable with movement, prolonged sitting, or certain activities.
Treatment for mid back pain depends on the underlying cause and severity of the symptoms. Conservative treatments such as physical therapy, medication, activity modification, and posture correction are often recommended to help reduce pain and improve mobility. If symptoms persist or are related to a more significant spinal condition, additional diagnostic evaluation and advanced treatment options may be considered.
The goal of treatment is to relieve pain, improve spinal function, and help patients return to their normal daily activities.
Low Back Pain
Low back pain affects the lower portion of the spine and is one of the most common causes of pain and difficulty with everyday activities. It may result from muscle or ligament strain, herniated discs, spinal stenosis, degenerative disc disease, or other conditions affecting the lumbar spine. Depending on the underlying cause, patients may experience pain, stiffness, limited movement, or symptoms that extend into the hips, buttocks, or legs.
Treatment for low back pain is based on the cause of the symptoms and the patient's individual needs. Conservative approaches such as physical therapy, medication, exercise, activity modification, and posture correction are commonly recommended as initial treatment. When these approaches do not provide adequate relief, additional treatment options, including advanced procedures or surgery, may be considered when appropriate.
The goal of treatment is to reduce pain, improve mobility and function, and help patients return to the activities they enjoy.
