Becca graduated cum laude from Samford University’s school of health professions, where she earned her exercise science degree in 2013. She then went on to UAB’s physician assistant program and has been practicing as a certified PA across the country since 2016. She started her career as an emergency medicine PA in Wichita Falls, Texas. After a year, she moved to Las Cruces, New Mexico and discovered her love for orthopedic surgery. In 2018 she moved to Alabama and joined the SOS team. She has now found her place working alongside Dr. Curtis treating a wide variety of orthopedic conditions.
Becca grew up in Tennessee but calls Alabama home. She is happily married to her college sweetheart, David, who is a fighter pilot currently stationed at Dannely Field. Together they have 2 dogs, Heidi and Bailey. In her free time, Becca also enjoys teaching fitness classes at the local Pure Barre studio. When she’s not working in Montgomery, she’s likely enjoying her free time up on the lake or traveling to the mountains. Every year, Becca takes a mission trip to the Dominican Republic with a team of undergraduate students from Samford University. She attends Church of the Highlands, Montgomery campus.

Manuel’s journey as an Orthopedic Nurse Practitioner started in 2017 when he joined SOS. He is a graduate of Auburn University with a Masters of Nurse Practitioner and is certified through the American Association of Nurse Practitioners. Manuel loves treating patients in the clinic setting and diagnosing musculoskeletal disorders. Manuel believes in compassionate and holistic care. He works in collaboration with Dr. Stephen Samelson and performs first assist duties in surgery. Manuel has vast experience in caring for acutely ill patients in the hospital setting.
Manuel is fluent in Spanish and Portuguese. He was born in Colombia but has lived in several countries including Brazil and Saudi Arabia. Manuel has lived in the river region area since 2001. He is married and has three girls. He enjoys time with his family, golfing, fishing, and piloting drones.
Nathan Kyle Evans

Nathan prefers to go by Nate, was raised in Alabama, and is a graduate of Prattville High School. He received his Associates Degree in Nursing from Troy University, his Bachelors of Science in Nursing from Arizona State University with Academic Honors, and then returned to Troy University to obtain his Masters of Science in Nursing.
Nate’s background includes several years as an ER nurse at local area hospitals, and as a travel ER nurse in multiple hospitals around the country. He also has experience in Interventional Radiology, and Intensive/Critical Care. Nate has always had a special interest in Sports Medicine. Upon graduating with his Masters of Science in Nursing, he obtained his certificate as a Family Nurse Practitioner from the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners, and maintains his membership with the AANP today.
Nate and his wife, Amy, have one son, Luke, and one daughter, Emersyn. In his spare time, he enjoys spending time with family, exercising, hunting, and fishing.
Derrick Johnson graduated from the University of Alabama at Birmingham in 1998. He received a BS degree in Physician Assistant studies. Before that he also earned in a BS degree from UAB in business management. He stumbled onto the healthcare field after an injury in rehabilitation. This sparked a passion to learn more. He made the Dean’s list on several different occasions in pursuant to his degree. After graduation, Derrick has primarily worked in orthopedics during his career. He has also worked in family practice and internal medicine.
Derrick is a “military brat”. He was born in Germany. He spent his formative years in Texas before settling in Huntsville Alabama. He is married with two children. When he is not working, he enjoys spending time with his family, running, and baking. Yes…..Baking!!
