Dr. Murphy is a native of Montgomery and graduated from Saint James High School. He attended Furman University where he graduated Summa Cum Laude and was inducted into the Phi Beta Kappa honor society.
His medical education was undertaken at the University of Alabama-Birmingham where he graduated magna cum laude and was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha, and Arnold P Gold Humanism in Medicine societies.
Dr. Murphy did his orthopaedic training with the Greenville Hospital System/University of South Carolina in Greenville, SC. In residency, Dr. Murphy was chosen for the Jackson award, given to the best intern in the hospital system. In Greenville, he worked closely with the renowned sports medicine group the Steadman Hawkins Clinic of the Carolinas and was fortunate to learn from famed shoulder specialist Dr. Richard Hawkins.
He then elected to undergo an additional year of fellowship training at the Mississippi Sports Medicine and Orthopaedic Center in Jackson, MS. During this year he also trained with arthroscopy expert Dr. Felix Savoie at the Tulane Institute of Sports Medicine in New Orleans, LA. He has provided athletic coverage for Tulane University, Delta State University, Alcorn State University, and Raymond High School.
Dr. Murphy is happy to see all musculoskeletal complaints but has a clinical interest in shoulder and upper extremity disorders.
He is married with two daughters.
